Jacques Saint-Étienne de La Tour was born about 1655 in Acadie, Nouvelle-France, son of Gouverneur Charles (De Latour) Saint-Étienne de La Tour (abt. 1593–abt. 1664) and Jeanne Motin (abt. 1615–bef. 1663).[1]. His oldest sister was born in Riviere St. Jean, his next younger sibling was born in Pubnico. No certain birth town was known for him.
In 1686, at Cap de Sable, Jacques de LA TOUR Sr. de ST ESTIENNE [sic], aged 25, was living with his wife, Marie [recte Anne] MELANCON [sic], aged 18. They owned 3 guns and were living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 5 cattle.[2]
